The Bands Of Oak Creek

 

Oak Creek High School runs a comprehensive band program begining with Marching Season, followed by either Band Concepts, Concert band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz or Jazz Combo.

The season starts with the Marching Band which performs thoughout the local area and finishing up this year with a return to New Lennox, IL as 2004-05 Grand Champions, for the traditional Exihibition Performance. The Marching Band consist of around 40 Color Guard and 140 instruments learning to work in as a cohesive unit..

Band Concepts

Band Concepts meets daily during semester one, and is open to any student with previous experience on a band instrument and with consent of director. Students will learn performance based corps style marching music, pep band music and concert band music. Sectional help sessions are provided. This course emphasizes learning about music through a variety of literature and enjoyable experiences.

Concert Band

Concert Band provide level delineation. Concert Band meets daily during semester two . Course experiences include: Concert Band literature, pep band, solo/ensemble, and small group help sessions. Performance responsibility include rehearsals, performances, and Sectionals .

Symphonic Band

Symphonic Band provide level delineation. Symphonic Band meets daily during semester two. Course experiences include: Symphonic Band literature, pep band, solo/ensemble, and small group help sessions. Performance responsibility include rehearsals, performances, and Sectionals.

Wind Ensemble

Wind Ensemble will provide delineation. Wind Ensemble meets daily during the second semester. Enrollment is limited according to instrumentation. Course experiences include: the historical study of bands (1890-present) and the study and performance of wind Ensemble music through wide variety of settings.

Jazz Combo/ Jazz Ensemble

Jazz Combo/ Jazz Ensemble meets after the school day and will provide an opportunity for more students to develop and improve their musical skills through study of individual and small group solo/ensemble literature. The course experiences include the study and performance of various musical styles within the genre: Jazz, Swing, Latin, Samba, as well as classic-romantic period literature with the emphasis placed upon individual and small group study.
